Saproxylic insects

The dead wood necromass present in the site will be analyzed through the study of the living beings that colonize it, in particular the saproxylic insects, the insects that live in and of the wood.

Census

Xylob... will first be counted and then constantly monitored. These animals play an important role in the carbon cycle and should be used in educational and informative activities.

Temporal phases

We will identify the temporal phases in the tree carcasses: [scolithoid, cerambicoidal-pyrochroidal, formicoidal, myrmicoidal) Each of these phases is characterized by the presence of specific insects and so they can tell the history of the wood.

Decomposition classes

Five classes of decomposition will be identified, using diagnostic characters such as the morphological features of the necromass, the presence of bark, the integrity of the structure and the colour of the wood.

Once a correct percentage of necromass is stabilized, a periodic and constant monitoring will be carried out through the collection of photos and samples and a census of the insects via window traps.
